Get-Well Gift Basket Ideas - 5 Ideas to Consider

by Susan Willis

Being in recovery after a sickness, surgery, or an accident is usually something that you would not wish on your worst enemy. Regardless of the particular cause of the person's feeling under the weather, it just does not feel very good to be so out of sorts in both body and mind.

As the friend, family member, neighbor or acquaintance of somebody who is not feeling their best, you have a number of options at your disposal for cheering him or her up. You can send a nice get-well card, visit their home or hospital room, or call. You could send flowers and a thoughtful card. Or, you could give a well-chosen gift.

One of the most popular gift choices for get-well gifts is the gift basket. Gift baskets can be filled with just about anything you can imagine, from entire meals to snacks to games to books & magazines - you name it.

If you are looking for get-well gift basket ideas, here are 5 ideas to consider that can help you choose just the right get-well basket for him or her:

1. Decide whether your gift basket will contain food:The decision as to whether the gift basket you give will contain food is an important one. Once you have made this decision, it will be easier to home in on exactly the right basket.

2. If the basket you choose will contain food, check with family members or their doctor about which types of food the person can eat:

If the get-well basket you choose to give will contain food, make sure that the patient will be able to eat the type of food you give. Whether you intend to give them a large meal (such as an Italian dinner, complete with hors d'oeuvres and wine) or a bunch of smaller snack items to munch on, the ingredients in the food may have an effect on their health. Check with family members or their doctor if you are unsure about some of the items in your basket choice before buying it.

Please add
your comments.

3. For other items, make sure it is something they can actually use at this point in their recovery:On the other hand, if you choose to give him or her non-food items, just think ahead in terms of whether this is something the person can actually use. For example, giving them games that could cause them to strain their bodies in order to use would not be appropriate. Or, if the person is taking a lot of different medications, then giving a thinking game (such as a word puzzle) might not be the best choice since the person could be fuzzy-headed.

4. Find a get-well gift basket that brings people together:For a person who is in recovery after an accident, surgery or an illness, they often find themselves getting a bit lonely at times. Apart from occasional visits from friends, life from day-to-day can get a bit dull when a person is in recovery. That is why a gift basket that brings people together, such as a "family fun" gift basket full of board games - or a movie night gift basket filled with DVDs and popcorn - can be a welcome treat.

5. Choose something that will make their life easier or make it more fun:Another great basket choice is one that will make life easier for them. Filling a basket with everyday & inexpensive items like coffee, toothpaste, paper towels and other household items can be a neat way to show you care while helping him or her out a bit around the house.

Consider these 5 ideas as you find him or her the perfect get-well gift basket.
